After a late evening of pondering route-age and other trivial things, Sam and I gladly greeted the hotel breakfast buffet in the morning to inhale enough food to power through a day's ride. We had picked a state park that was not too far away based primarily on the fact that my "rest day" of yesterday had turned into about 5 hours of fighting headwinds. As I had expected, it quickly became clear that he was a might bit speedier than me and we soon decided we would both be happier parting ways for at least the first bit of the day as he was itching to head out on fresh legs and I was happy trudging along smelling the roses.
It was nice riding out to Crooked River and as we neared the park and met up we just had to explore these tabby ruins.

Hello Georgia! |

Excellent, a subject for my photos. I do love scenery, but taking pictures of people is more up my alley |

El Toro and Nancy. Perhaps a way to fund our trip? |
We arrived to the park with plenty of daylight and, after an impressively convoluted campsite registry process, there was a lovely evening of camping to be had. Sam volunteered for fire-making duties and I got to try out my Whisperlite stove for some tea, gumbo-spiced lentils, and a yam I had gotten from the farmer's market in Jacksonville. It was the first time I had camped all trip and I really enjoyed having the "full camping experience" (rather than tent-pitching in desperation as darkness hits, as I had nearly done a few times).
